Drove along the coast to West Bay, and painfully discovered that sandals were not the best choice of footwear for the shingle beach. After hastily returning to the car to change into trainers we walked East to The Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock, partly along the beach, and partly along the impressive sandstone clifftops.

We enjoyed excellent crab sandwiches in a large open sided tent at the cafe, and then read on information boards in the car park that fossils could be found on the beach if you were prepared to be patient. Well it is known as the Jurassic Coast. Setting off on the walk back I promptly picked one up at my first attempt, much to my partners disgust. I have to confess that it was tiny - but it's not the size that matters.

We had our first encounter with the sea fog coming in and threatening to completely obscure the imposing cliffs on the way back. The Kings Arms for tea and a few drinks in the evening.
