10th June 2018

After a fairly uneventful journey along some of England’s less picturesque roads, including the M25 and M3, we arrived at Portesham Dairy Farm Campsite in Dorset. We located the bit of grass which would be our home for the next week, noticed we had no immediate neighbours, and after some debate pitched the tent directly in front of the pitch number rather than between the numbers. It was at this point that we discovered that a snail had stowed away the last time we had packed the tent away. I don’t know what snails are made of, but whatever it is leaves a hole in tent fabric so be warned! The empty snail shell discarded and a bit of tape applied to the hole, we adjourned to the pub in search of food. All good holidays should begin with a trip to check out the local pub - in this case The King’s Arms in Portesham village where a Sunday roast was the obvious choice. I was ready to see what local ales they might have, and Devon’s Proper Job and Otter were prominent.
